Original oil painting on canvas by Albert Lauzero (France, 1909-2006), circa 1950s. This painting is titled on the stretcher "Place du Marche a Montmorency". 18" by 21 1/4" (canvas alone), 25" by 29" in its frame. Signed "Lauzero" l.r. In excellent untouched condition. From a Manhattan estate. Albert Lauzero was born in Gascogne but came to Paris in 1927, where he studied at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere with Othon Friesz. In 1954 he settles in Montmorency (Val d'Oise). This city will devote a retrospective exhibition to Lauzero in 2005, a year before his death ("Lauzero: de 1933 a nos jours".) A number of books have been devoted to this artist's work, including: "Trois peintres de l'ecole de Pontoise" by E.R. Collot, and "Lauzero...Un Homme...Un peintre-Albert Lauzero et Montmorency" (Jean Aubert). Well listed (Benezit, and all the usual databases and reference works); collected (French State purchase, and City of Paris purchase, Musee de l'Ile de France in Sceaux, Musee de Meudon, Musee des Baux de Provence, etc.); and exhibited (Salon D'Automne, Nationale des Beaux Arts, Salon des Independants, Galerie Durand-Ruel, Galerie Bernheim-Jeune in 2011--"Cent Ans d'Harmonie"--etc.)
