Original watercolor/gouache by Hans Kleiss (1901-1973) depicting two veiled Moroccan women conversing, circa 1940-1950. In wonderful condition. Signed l.l. with Kleiss' distinctive signature. Roughly 13" by 10" (33cm by 24cm). Hans Kleiss was an Orientalist/Africanist painter, illustrator,and caricaturist. He was married to Orientalist painter Yvonne Kleiss-Herzig, and they both lived for long periods of time in North Africa (Morocco and Algeria). They settled together in Sidi Slimane (Morocco) in the early fifties before returning to France. Well listed and collected. One of a number of works by this artist currently available.
