Original and unique terracotta sculpture of a seated figure by Irma Rothstein (American, born in Russia, 1896-1971), incised signature on the base, in excellent condition. This rare work measures roughly 11"h by 11"w by 7"d.
Irma Rothstein is an American sculptor born in Rostov (Rostoff), Russia. She lived in Vienna before emigrating to the USA in 1938. She worked in wood, terracotta, and bronze mainly. Well exhibited: Galerie St. Etienne in New York, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, New School for Social Research, PAFA, etc. Her works are in the permanent collections of Yale University and the Newark Museum, to name but a couple. One of two works by this artist currently available.
