Original oil painting on panel by Sam Sargent (American, 1889-1959), signed in red "S. Sargent" l.l. This painting is still in its original frame and is in pristine condition. Dates from the 1945-1955 period. Sam Sargent was born in Newburyport, Massachussets, and studied at the Mass. College of Art in Boston under Joseph DeCamp. He exhibited at the Copley Gallery in Boston, the Addison Gallery of American Art, Andover, and the Currier Museum in Manchester, New Hampshire. He was the founder of the Newburyport Art Association (Laura Coombs Hills was also a founding member). In 1998 a retrospective exhibition of his work was staged at the Newburyport Art Association. One of two works by this artist currently available.
