Original pictorial marquetry panel by Albert James Rowley (English, 1875-1944), circa 1912. This panel measures 18" square and still bears its original "Pan label" designed by William A. Chase and its title: "Binding". It is inlaid of various woods and represents a peasant woman binding hay, a la Van Gogh.
A. J. Rowley was an important London framer and creator of inlaid wood panels in the Arts And Crafts style, designed by Frank Brangwyn, W. A. Chase, Edward King, and Rowley himself. Four of these panels are in the Victoria and Albert Museum Collection.
