Original painting (Casein on masonite) by Paul Shimon (American, born 1922). It measures 18" by 24" outside of its elaborate frame. Signed "Shimon" l.r. Also inscribed "Land of Ophir, Paul Shimon" on the reverse. In very good overall condition: small repair on the lower right corner, may benefit from a cleaning. There are scattered references to this artist who was active in New York (where he was born, and still lives) in the mid-twentieth century. He studied with Jean Louis Liberte, and at the ASL. He was a member of the Artists Equity Association of NYC. His works are held at the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio. He was also apparently active as a painter on early plastic jewelry. Shimon is listed in Who Was Who in American Art, in Artprice.com, etc. We currently also have a number of works on paper (drawings and mixed-media) by Shimon available. Please inquire.
