Original oil painting on canvas by Anthony Toney (American/ 1913-2004) in excellent untouched original condition. This painting measures 28" by 36" outside of its original frame. It is signed "Toney" and dated 63 l.r. also signed (Anthony Toney), titled (Man) and inscribed (16 Hampton Pl. Katonah, NY) on the reverse. It also bears the remnants of a gallery exhibition label. Excellent provenance (directly from the family of the artist). My photo does not begin to convey the complexity of this figurative abstract expressionist painting (a long procession of standing human figures culminates at the center of the painting in one oversize masculine figure possibly holding another figure, and surrounded by others--feminine and masculine. Toney the painter of large murals during the WPA period (murals painted in 1935-1936)is still clearly in evidence in the sixties.) Anthony Toney has an excellent auction record and is listed everywhere (cf. ADEC, Mayers, Davenport, Art Sales Index, Artprice, Askart, Who Was Who in American Art, etc.) We currently have four paintings by this artist in stock, all with the same excellent provenance, as well as an ink drawing. Please inquire.
