Original oil (50" x 40") by Bertha Ballou (American/ 1891-1978). Bertha Ballou studied at the ASL, the Boston School of Fine Art and in Florence. She settled in Spokane, WA. She is the daughter of Colonel C. Ballou, who was commandant at Fort George Wright in the 20's, and the painting is a portrait of Kitty, daughter of Colonel and Mrs. Marshall Candee, also of Fort George Wright (where the painting was purchased--at that time it was still Fort Wright College). Ballou is listed in Davenport, Falk, Who Was Who in American Art, The Encyclopedia of Women Artists, etc. The painting has been relined and is in excellent condition. Unframed. We have two other paintings by Bertha Ballou, an impressionist landscape (SOLD) and a street scene from her Florence days. Please inquire.
