Original acrylic on canvas by J. Bardin (Jesse Redwin Bardin, American/ 1923-1997) dating from the 60's. J. (this artist only used his first initial) Bardin was both a contemporary and a friend of Jasper Johns. They both left South Carolina in the fifties for New York, and shared living space and studio there for a while. Bardin studied at the ASL with Will Barnet. He is credited for being one of the first South Carolina artists to create abstract paintings in the fourties and fifties. He regularly exhibited in France at the Centre International d'Art Contemporain from the sixties to around 1986. This painting, which measures 20" by 30" is in excellent condition and is signed "J. Bardin" L.R. Listed in Who Was Who in American Art, Artprice, Askart, etc.
