Original and early ceramic sculpture by Dorothy Elaine Robbins (American-Israeli/ 1920-1999), circa 1950, in excellent condition. This sculpture has an incised signature. It measures 17" by 13" by 9" base not included. Ohio born Robbins studied at Cranbrook and at the Cincinnati Academy of Art. She taught ceramic sculpture at the Cincinnati Art Museum between 1948 and 1950. She notably exhibited at the National Ceramic Exhibitions of the Syracuse Museum in 1948 and 1950 (cf. Paul Evans, Art Pottery of the United States, p. 428); also at PAFA in 1950 and 1953. She knew Lipchitz, Moore, Epstein, Archipenko, Saul Baizerman, etc. She moved to Israel in 1971 and is mainly known as an Israeli sculptor. Dorothy Robbins is listed in Askart, Vasefinder.com, etc. There is a website dedicated to her work.
