| Original oil painting on wood panel by Leonid Gechtoff (American, 1883-1941) offered in excellent original condition and with original period frame. This painting is signed l.r. and also inscribed verso by the artist: "Fisherman Houses at Caprie by L. Gechtoff M.A.A. 1936". It measures 24" by 30" painting alone and 31" by 37" in its frame. Leonid Gechtoff was a well-known Russian born American painter who painted in Pennsylvania and the American Southwest while in the USA. He also lived and painted in Europe and in Cairo. His technique and his style are very distinctive: heavy impasto, in a post-impressionist style which mixes expressionist elements. Gechtoff has had a number of imitators in the mid-century period. | |
