Original ink sketch by (Samuel) Wood Gaylor (American, 1883-1957). This work is signed l.r. It still bears a label from the Kraushaar Galleries in New York which states the title of the work, "Child and Horseman". Not dated but circa 1920. A naked child pulling on his "horsey" stands in front of a naked horseman brandishing a sword. A great example of Gaylor's quirky wit, and one of two works by this artist currently offered on this site. Samuel Wood Gaylor studied at the National Academy of Design with Walt Kuhn, and participated with him in the fabled Armory Show of 1913. From a New York collection.
