| Original gouache or oil painting on paper by Alexander (Alex) Redein (American, 1912-1990) offered in excellent condition. This work depicting houses and rock outcroppings by the ocean is signed l.r. and dated "47". It measures 19" by 25" (30" by 36" in its frame). Alexander Redein's work has been a constant presence on this site. He was an important figure in the New York art scene from the 1940's through the seventies. He studied art at the Yale School of Fine Art and at the Art Students League. He was one of the modernist artists congregating at the Rothman Frame Shop on 28th Street, with Remo Farrugio, Byron Browne, the Kallem brothers, Joseph de Martini, etc. He is known to have spent a number of summers painting in Provincetown, in Woodstock, and on Fire Island. Well exhibited (PAFA, NAD, AWS, etc.), listed, and collected. One of two works from the same group of early paintings just added to this website. | |
