ALEXANDER REDEIN, EARLY GOUACHE, CIRCA 1940'S
Original gouache or oil painting on paper by Alexander (Alex) Redein (American, 1912-1990) offered framed under glass and in excellent condition. This work depicting a row boat by the ocean with houses and rock outcroppings is signed l.r. and dates from the mid-1940's. It measures 19" by 25" (30" by 36" in its frame). Alexander Redein's work has been a constant presence on this site. He was an important figure of the New York art scene for about 40 years. He studied at the Yale Art School of Fine Art, and at the Art Students League. He was one of the modernist artists who regularly gathered at the Rothman Frame Shop on 28th Street, alongside Remo Farrugio, Byron Browne, the Kallem brothers, Joseph de Martini, Michael Lekakis, etc. He is known to have spent a number of summers painting in Provincetown, in Woodstock, and on Fire Island. Well exhibited (PAFA, NAD, AWS, etc.), listed, and collected. One of two works from the same group of early paintings by Redein just added to this website.
