| Decorative ceramic clock case, designed/sculpted by well listed Austrian born artist Anton Puchegger (1878-1917 *or* 1890-1917, depending on reference cited). We believe this piece dates to around 1910 (+/-). Puchegger worked for firms such as Meissen, Nymphenburg and KPM. His animal figurines are exquisitely rendered with a high degree of skill, creating lifelike versions that also possess a stylized/stylish edge. This clock case is a fine example of his work, featuring a pair of very gothic owls sitting atop the square, headstone-like clock housing. A limited glaze pallette of grey and white highlight and bring the facial, feather and talon detail to life, with gold leaf backed glass eyes that finish the piece. The housing has a very faint grey glaze around the lowest 2" of the base. Size/Condition: Measures 8"(L)x 5"(W)x 13"(H). The opening for the clock is 2.25" with the overlap/mounting rim being just under 2.875". In generally very good vintage condition with a few manufacturing flaws like tiny glaze pinholes or glaze density variations. There are a few scattered tiny glaze flakes and/or nicks (above left owl's right eye, at the foot of right owl), as well as a couple shallow chips on the low front corner.....some of the gold foil from the back of the eyes has flaked off. The clock is obviously missing and can be replaced.....a factory, mold made hole is in the center of the low back for an electrical cord. The case is very well marked: Artist's name on side (hand incised), an impressed circular logo on the back, depicting a seated man holding a spear and three small shield shapes underneath, the word "Depose", the number "284T". On the inside wall the number "6619". | ||
