She is the turn of the century Chinese Goddess of Mercy and Hearer of all Prayers. She is beautifully detailed, right down to her fingers and the beads around her neck. She has a traditional hair style and long flowing robes. She is depicted carrying a lotus flower and standing on a bed of lotus blossoms and seeds.

Blanc de Chien ( white from China ) porcelain is usually associated with Dehua kilns. She was made from a mold, not on a potter's wheel. Incised and applied decorations were added by skilled artisans and the wares are fired at the highest possible temperature. The clay itself is quite unusual, having very little iron oxide in it, which allows for the unusual pure color. The shiny wet looking glaze melded to the porcelain makes it so appealing.
