It is rhodium and gold plated metal with rhinestones, of a flying swallow with rhinestones on its head, breast, wings and tail feathers. The back of the brooch is made of rhodium plated metal, the front of gold and rhodium plated metal used as a base for the rhinestone pave. Hallmarked with Pygyrian cap and DesPat'd.
This was probably the first of an extraordinary series of three-dimensional birds made for Saks which marked Boucher's definitive coronation as one of the best designers and manufacturers of costume jewelry. There is also a colored enamel version of this item.
If any one has more information with regard to this item I would appreciate your sending to me. It is not Trifari because their is virtually no unsigned Trifari from this time frame. Blood stone is Plasma with red sports of iron oxide. Plasma is dark green, opaque chalcedonly quartz with the color coming from the chlorite.
