 "SOLD" Thank you Alabama
A beautifully carved Japanese ivory Okimono of a man going to the marketplace, carrying a bamboo basket over his back, filled with lingzhi fungus and held firmly by rope in his right hand.In his left hand is a cloth pouch containing money and a walking stick probably made from bamboo. He is clad in richly patterned clothing and wears an elegant pair of walking sandals. The carver's signature,"Tanimatsu" is on the base of the carving. The condition is excellent with only a minor age line at the base of the walking stick,as noted on the photo enlargement.Circa:Late 20th Century(1970-1980)Size:4 3/4"high. This very fine contemporary Japanese ivory carving shows the carver's superb workmanship and attention to detail.A really wonderful carving to add to your collection.
