This exquisite round box, which probably graced a scholar's desk is a fine example of the burl wood boxes produced from the Ming and well into the late Qing dynasties. The rich brown patina shows a delightful surface grain pattern which almost looks like swirling smoke or root formations. The cover has a slightly inverted domed top with a hand carved central stem. Condition:Excellent Circa:Late Qing Dynasty,19thC(1850-1908) Size:5"Diameter x 3"high. A beautiful burlwood covered box that should be added to your scholar art collection.
