A Very Fine 19thC Underglaze Red and Blue Snuff Bottle
Of tapering cylindrical form with shoulders curvng into the neck with convex lip and a recessed flat circular foot surrounded by a flat circular footrim;painted with a wrapped-around scene of a fisherman sitting with his catch-basket and holding his fishing rod in the stream on a rocky bank beneath the moon, mountains and pine tress. The moon, pine trees and mountains represent eternal fishing, the dream of all fisherman. Most remarkable of all is the control of both the underglaze red and the underglaze cobalt-blue oxides which have always been extremely difficult to handle. Condition:Excellent Circa:Qing Dynasty,Daoguang Period(1821-1850) Size:31/4"high. A superb choice for the astute collector. This bottle is a beauty with lots of meaning.
