Silver puzzle ring with two hands covering a heart.  The sterling silver ring is Victorian, circa 1870,  and consists of 3 rings held together by hands, the sentimental symbol of friendship and love.  This genre of ring is known as a fede gimmel, and was used since the 16th century as a betrothal ring.  When the hands separate, the 3 rings separate and the heart is exposed.  When they close  only the two clasped hands are visible.  Fede comes from the Italian word meaning trust, while gimmel comes from the Latin word gemellus,  meaning twins. The ring is Size   7 1/2. $ 925 .
