Japanese teabowl with unctuous, earthy orange glaze over a course, white earthenware body. According to Morse, the mark reads "Kagura" (also could be read Shinraku or Kanraku) and was produced through the end of the Edo period in the village of Okazaki (the ware's namesake) by Bunzaburo (last of a line?) A simple but pleasing bowl with glaze casually burnt along one side. Some glaze losses (how we know the body color) not detracting from the bowl's aesthetics. Good condition otherwise. (Just tried some tea from it - good too.)Diameter, 5 5/8 in. Height 2 1/8 in.
