A Chinese famille rose decorated porcelain foliate bowl. The exterior with swallows flying over a green sea with fish and blossoms. The foot with a band of blue and butterflies and flowers decoration. The interior and foot glazed with a turquoise enamel. The foliate rim a light cafe au lait with traces of gilt enamel. Six character Dauguang seal mark in red enamel and possibly late in the period - this type and quality of wares being produced in the decline of the mid to late 19th century and this being a better example (by the Tongzhi reign quality had become notoriously poor.) "CHINA" has been scratched into the turquoise enamel under the mark, no doubt to satisfy import requirements at the time. There is an almost 7/17 inch ( cm) chip mostly under the rim, surface lightly scratched and high points rubbed inside the bowl, otherwise good condition and no cracks. Diameter, about 5 1/2 inches (14 cm).
