| ca. late 19th/early 20th century 30 3/4" x 35", 78 cm x 89 cm This small coat is beautifully colored and patched, and, in person, it is much more alluring than shown in these photos. The base of this coat is a middle-figure kasuri (ikat) cotton fabric which was once a very deep indigo color but has faded out to be a kind of deep grey. The patchings are beautiful blue hand loomed cotton. There is a wonderful, unusual surprise on the interior of the coat: what appears to be a patch for mending a weakened area of the coat is actually a vest pocket: a really charming addition to a beautiful piece of old Japan. | ||||||||||||
