| ca. early Twentieth century 9" x 4 1/2" x 4 1/2", 23 cm x 11.5 cm x 11.5 cm This is a pair of gorgeously rustic, beautifully colored, thickly woven, indigo dyed cotton tabi, clearly made for hard work. The cotton is dense and the construction of the tabi show that not only was the pair intended to be put to rough use, but they have been used. The applied tab over the instep of the tabi seems to have been put there to guard against inevitable wear. The tabi close up the back using a neat vertical row of flat, wide brass 'hooks'. The tabi are stitched by machine. The soles of the tabi are of a thickly woven, undyed cotton, reinforced at the heel and toe areas. | |||||||||
