| ca. early to mid Twentieth century 35" x 32", 90 cm x 81 cm Seemingly unused, this small, silk child's kimono seems to be a kind of meisen silk, a commercial form of silk that was popularly used to make every day kimono starting in the Meiji Era through the mid Twentieth century. Meisen silk is usually regularly woven with an even surface whereas this piece shows some irregularity and slubs, which is not common in meisen silk. The pattern is a kind of chain pattern, the technique is a kind of kasuri, or ikat. A curious little piece that shows beautiful color and design, in wonderful condition. | |||||||||||
