| ca. early Twentieth century 36" x 32", 92 cm x 81 cm This is a lovely and poetic child's kimono, made of a lightweight silk dyed in a beautiful, sophisticated pale blue, with just a touch of green. The hem of the kimono--and the proper back--shows a skillfully hand-painted vignette of a languid, autumn stream into which chrystanthemums, maple leaves, and small painted landscapes are falling. The kamon, or family crests on the piece are stylized oak leaves. The contrasting, deep purple lining is a great visual treat, as is the semmamori, or protective stitch that runs up the back of the kimono, and that are stitched on to the two, long front ties of the piece. The kimono shows some faint but unnoticeable stains and there are some sprays of pin-prick sized holes overall--please see detail photos. A really lovely piece, beautiful in all aspects. | |||||||||||||||
