| ca. early to mid twentieth century 32 1/2" x 37", 82.5 cm x 94 cm This boro noragi has everything you would want to find in an excellent old, boro work coat. It is of really lovely indigo dyed cotton that is worn away to a spectacular patina (see accompanying photos). As well, most importantly, there is a veritable downpour of sashiko stitches--rows and rows of closely stitched vertical streams--that are intricately sewn and intensely worked. Fabulous. The exterior of the coat itself is patched with cotton kasuri cloth in varying repeat sizes, which heap on the visual appeal to this already stunningly good example of a work coat. Note the areas just next to the collar, at the shoulder seam: on either side there is abrasion that has worn away, all the way through the garment, leaving two small holes. Still, this is an absolutely wonderful noragi and if you have been on the fence about which you'd like to buy, make up your mind on this one. Very recommended. | |||||||||||||||
