This large size Puss in the Corner quilt (aka Improved Nine Patch) has a stunning array of fabrics from the second quarter of the nineteenth century. They are beautifully and cleverly assembled to create a diamond pattern with just the use of eight blocks strategically placed. Measurements are 102" x 104", ample for a king size bed. Pennsylvania origin; circa 1850.

Starbursts are just the beginning of patterning of this exciting quilt. Diamonds are filled with Robbing Peter to Pay Paul type circles that look quite different when used in half around the border. Red centers are strategically placed within the stars. The blue and ivory border chintz beautifully complements the printed fabrics of the interior. Tremendous care and planning to maske this a superb quilt. Measurements are 80@ x 88@. Pennsylvania origin> circa 1850.

Unusual and sophisticated Courthouse Steps Log Cabin quilt in which the patterned fabrics are all paisley shawls. The solid color is a wool challis black. If displayed on a wall, the pattern works equally well vertically or horizontally as shown in a thumbnail photo. Backing is cotton calico. Pennsylvania origin; circa 1880. Excellent condition.

This little One Patch Doll Quilt is a perfect miniature gem. The patches are about 3/4" square. Condition is excellent. It is unusually well stitched for a doll quilt with a small diamond pattern. It measures 9 3/4" x 11 1/4". The binding is the off white backing turned to the front. Made circa 1890; Pennsylvania origin.

Double Pyramids pattern crib quilt (aka Old Maid's Puzzle)that is ever so Pennsylvania. The rust and yellow calico color combination is typical of Lancaster County where this was made. The blocks are nicely scaled to make a child size quilt. Excellent condition; circa 1880. Measures 37 1/2" x 39". Backing is a beautiful brown plaid.

Squares within squares such as this are called an Economy Patch quilt pattern. It is made of a terrific combination of late 19th century printed fabrics. Consistent use of yellow squares on the outer edge make a clever differentiation while actually using the same pattern throughout.The backing is a pink and green calico Bars pattern, often seen in quilts from southeast Pennsylvania. Measurements are 82" square; circa 1880. Excellent condition.
