Yes, I've named this quilt Tulips and Wreaths but that is not totally descriptive. The intertwined shapes within the wreaths and extending beyond are nothing I've seen before. To my knowledge, the quilt is a unique combination of traditional flowers with imaginative shapes. The large tulips are very effective in forming a frame with the smaller ones filling in the off blocks. It is beautifully quilted. It has been professionally laundered and is in excellent condition. This bold barn raising log cabin quilt beautifully combines patterned wool fabrics to create added interest to the eye. The use of light fabrics in the center diamond draws your eye immediately to this focal point while the many additional prints lead you throughout the entire pattern. The four triangles of color within the red frame are particularly well placed. Upon close examination, one sees that the border is actually a herringbone pattern combining solid blacks with printed fabrics. Measur ...click for details
Classic Courthouse Steps Log Cabin quilt with a good use of lights and darks. Solid red and orange logs play well against the printed fabrics. Excellent condition. It is lightweight with no batting. Measurements are 78" square. Pennsylvania origin; circa 1880.
This Mennonite Lone Star quilt could not be richer in color. The deep green background perfectly sets off the white quilting which is elaborately done with wreaths. The diamond pieces making up the star are smaller than usual adding more waves of color. The orange zig-zag border beautifully repeats colors within the star.
Lebanon County, Pennsylvania origin. 92" square. Unwashed condition with two small smudges and two area of light fading visible in thumbnail photos.
The Oakleaf blocks are so densely packed in this appliqué quilt that they form a secondary pattern of groups of four green leaves. The border, in addition to continuing the leaves, has hearts throughout. The Oakleaf is a traditional pattern but placement of the blocks in this example gives it an abstract quality as well.
The quilt is in pristine, unwashed condition. Pennsylvania origin; circa 1860. Measurements are 74" x 86".
This classic Nine Patch quilt is nicely scaled and well quilted. There is a flower in each of the white blocks and a feather running throughout the border. It is freshly laundered. The border fabric is a more ivory shade of white than the interior. The quilt is in outstanding condition. Measurements are 40" x 52". Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania origin; circa 1880.
This richly colored LeMoyne Stars quilt is made with fine wool challis on the front and back.
The blue print of the off blocks is arranged so as to give the effect of diagonal lines throughout the quilt.
Sewn to the quilt is a note that reads "Made in the year 1877 by my mother Clara Kerr Thorne Mrs. MIlls Bratton My Mother". This is a little confusing but I believe Mrs. Bratton is the daughter of the maker.
Pennsylvania origin. Measurements are 65" x 78". There is a s ...click for details
This exceptional Bullseye Quilt is one of a handful known. All were made in the tiny town of Lenhartsville, Pennsylvania in Berks County. In the 2010 census, Lenhartsville had a population of 165.
At this point, it is unknown who made these quilts. Each has a slight variation in colors and patterns around the central bullseye. All have an inner diamond border. Was it one family who "owned" this pattern or was it passed around the village? It is a fascinating question waiting to be ans ...click for details
This Ohio Amish One Patch doll quilt reminds me of a Paul Klee painting. One row of squares is just off center enough to make it really interesting. The rich colors contrast well with the lighter squares and border. Quilted in diagonal lines with brown thread. Made of cottons. It is professionally mounted on a stretcher measuring 9 5/8" x 11 3/4".
This Princess Feather is beautifully quilted with a clamshell pattern.
The center of each Feather has the unusual feature of a Lemoyne Star. Whether intentional or not, the white areas around it create the look of a flower. The border continues the Feather theme with the addition of individual leaves.
It has been professionally laundered and is in pristine condition. Measurements are 86" x 88". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1860.
