This early Garden Maze quilt is done with the richest of colors. The deep indigo is beautifully offset by the wonderful and unusual rose printed fabric. It is nicely quilted with circles in the center of each block. The Wild Goose Chase border frames it all perfectly. Excellent condition; circa 1850. New York State origin.
This applique quilt is light, airy and graceful. The body is quilted with a crosshatch pattern with half wreaths along the border and full wreaths in the corners. The leaves look like grape leaves which is why I think the circles are not berries but that is open to interpretation. It has been professionally laundered and is in excellent condition. Pennsylvania origin; circa 1860.
Wonderfully scaled Baskets quilt with a fabulous zig zag border. The baskets face both directions so that when placed on a bed, both parties would see the baskets facing toward them. Each basket measures 3 3/4" tall. It's interesting that the triangles filling the baskets look like a Flying Geese pattern. The light color is a very pale, buttery yellow that is almost white. Nicely quilted and in excellent, probably unwashed condition. Measurements are 72" x 78". Lebanon County, ...click for details
This Diamond in a Square quilt is created with the use of One Patch blocks. It is an unusual variation from Bowmansville, a small town in Lancaster, Pennsylvania known for its Star pattern quilts made in this manner. The light and dark calico fabrics are very well planned to make this complex pattern. Solid color pinks in the light areas are especially effective in spreading the eye around. Measurements are 76" x 78". Cable quilting in outer red border. There is a very, very faint are ...click for details
This early wool quilt truly looks like a fabric collage. It is made of a variety of probably homespun coarse wools of solid colors, plaids and stripes. The salmon fabric really pops out against the muted browns. It is quilted with concentric arcs. Two old repairs in the shape of an oval and a rectangle fit perfectly with the irregular pattern. There is a small spot near the repairs but no other condition apologies. The binding is the salmon backing turned to the front.

What may initially appear to be a basic Log Cabin quilt actually has two unusual features. The centers are chocolate brown which is a variation from the far more usual red centers. Second is the border fabric of vining leaves. It has a shading going from white to tones of gray that is most unusual for a nineteenth century quilt but is contemporaneous with the rest of the piece.
The quilt is in excellent condition; measurements are 72" x 74". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1880's. Th ...click for details
The primary pattern of this very graphic quilt is meant to be Tumbling Blocks but the three dimensional squares also alternate with the appearance of six point stars.
The use of solid colors enhances both graphic effects. The border is quilted with a chevrons pattern and a flower in the center of each side. The quilt has been professionally laundered and is in excellent condition. Measurements are 76" x 83". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1890.
Everything about this multipatterned Flower Basket quilt is intensely detailed. The triangles forming the Baskets are extremely finely pieced. It is very well quilted with small diamond patterning throughout. One wonders whether the maker chose the Garden Maze sashing for the graphics alone or because of the complementarity of the name with the flower baskets. In either case, it works well. The appliqued double sawtooth border nicely continues the triangles theme with a slight twist. Pennsylvani ...click for details
Well made classic crossed flowers Laurel Leaf quilt. It's interesting that the maker chose a totally different type of leaf for the applique and reverse applique border. The thin batting makes the quilting difficult to photograph but it is very well done with fairly elaborate patterns of flowers and wreaths. The quilt has been professionally laundered and is in excellent condition. What may appear as tiny brown spots seem to be cotton seeds within the batting. This Starburst pattern is well crafted in every way. It is beautifully quilted with an unusual wavy border; flowers in the corners and diamonds throughout. It is well pieced and has the unusual touch of the Star actually being appliqued to the blue ground. It is in outstanding, unwashed condition. Measurements are 88" x 94". The backing is made of three different double blue calico prints.
