This reversible comforter is probably meant to have the Nine Patch as the front as that is the side on which it is tied. To my eye, the One Patch is far more beautiful as both the color combination and the printed fabrics are luscious. The primary red print has birds in nests. The quilt is in pristine, unwashed condition. It is from Frederick County, Maryland; circa 1880's.
This graceful Sailboats quilt appears to be an original pattern with a very Deco sense. The combination of colors gives it a soft feel even though it is made totally of hard edge pieces. The quilt is in excellent, unwashed condition. It is quilted with concentric arcs. Measurements are 70" x 82". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1920.
The blue background sky of this interesting Airplanes quilt gives an entirely different secondary pattern to the whole quilt. The blue and peach, being of similar size and color values, vie for primary position making a completely abstract pattern. I expect this was unintentional on the part of the maker. Measurements are 62" x 72"; excellent condition. Made circa 1930.
This charming rug depicts three roosters in profile. It is made of cottons; circa 1930. The front is in excellent condition. The backing has some stitched reinforcements along the binding. They are not visible on the front. Measurements are 22" x 39". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1930.
This Airplanes with Eagles quilt pattern was created in 1929 to commemorate Charles Lindberg's 1927 transatlantic flight in The Spirit of St. Louis from Long Island to France. Lindberg flew solo in 33 1/2 hours and became known as The Lone Eagle. The flight made Lindberg an American hero. This quilt alternates pieced airplanes with quilted eagles. It is in excellent condition. Measurements are 68" x 88".
Double Wedding Ring was one of the most popular patterns in the 1930's. In almost all instances, it was made primarily with printed fabrics. This solid color example is far more unusual and, to my eye, more sophisticated. It is made with several closely related pinks and blues and the same red and white creating Four Patches in the center. It is nicely quilted and in excellent condition. Measurements are 74" x 96" to the outer edges of the scallops. Virginia origin; circa 1930.
This exceptional Trip Around the World Quilt could hardly have been made with smaller pieces. Each is less than 3/4" to a side. It is made with alternating rows of solid and printed fabrics that are well arranged for color. It is in pristine condition. Measurements to the outside edges are 72" x 78". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1930.
In most Fundraising quilts, names of donors are embroidered around a traditional quilt pattern. In this unusual quilt, the entire design is made of the embroidered names. It creates an interesting, spare, linear pattern. Within a star in the center of the quilt is the name of Reverend C.A. Butz for whom the quilt was evidently made, perhaps for his departure from the parish. The quilt is in pristine, unwashed condition. Measurements are 72" x 74".
This Bunny Rabbits quilt has the charm to please a child or adult. The blue background with light and dark frames makes it more sophisticated and out of the realm of cutesy. One wonders why the lower left corner doesn't continue the darker blue border. Not enough material? It is quilted with white thread. The body of the quilt is done with a waffle pattern and a cable in the border. It is in spotless, unwashed condition. Measurements are 80" x 81"; Pennsylvania origin; circa 1930.
Unlike many Bowtie quilt patterns, this charming crib quilt has an unusual positive/negative effect. While the primary Bowties are blue, one can also see the white blocks as echoing them. Several different, very closely related solid blue fabrics were used. The border is nicely quilted with overlapping circles. The quilt is in excellent condition. It measures 33 1/2" x 36 1/2". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1930.
If ever a quilt had good karma, this is it. Embroidered are the messages: Sweet Remembrance: Think of Me; May You be Happy; and A Keepsake for Myra. It is also signed Made by MCG and Dated March, 1906. The Fans are set up in an unusual and very effective way. Setting them in vertical rows and placing them in opposing directions makes for a wonderful abstract pattern. The quilt is in excellent condition; Maryland origin. Measurements are 69" x 82".
This Hit or Miss hooked rug combines an open center pattern framed by a more structured border. The huge variety of colors makes it adaptable to virtually any environment. The rug measures 70" x 85". It appears to be in un-used condition. It was made by Elda Dickey of Portage, Pennsylvania; circa 1930.

This fabulous 48 star Patriotic quilt has the embroidered title "Stars and Stripes Forever." The stripes of the flag are created in an unusual way. Rather than using horizontal strips, the maker made her work much more difficult by using short diagonal strips...
This original piece of textile nostalgia is made of pennants from points of interest primarily in the eastern United States and several in Canada. In addition, pennants from Dartmouth; N.Y.U; Notre Dame and the Coast Guard are included. Perhaps they were collected during one's travels from Florida to Maine. Regardless of how they were assembled, they were put together to make a strong graphic statement in terms of color and design. Measures 53" x 108".
This charming braided cat rug would be equally happy on a floor or wall. It is made of heavy wools and should be sturdy enough to be suitable on a floor. Measurements are 34" x 47" to the top of the ears. It is in excellent condition.
This classic Broken Star quilt is enhanced by the wonderful diagonal striped border and the perfect combination of colors. It is extremely finely quilted with wreaths throughout and a delicate undulating vine in the border. It is in excellent condition. Measurements are 74" x 77". Pennsylvania origin; circa 1920's.
This Yo Yo doll quilt is head and shoulders above most examples of this pattern. The pieces are nicely scaled to the size of the quilt. The cream colored border and frame divides it well into quadrants. The soft colors blend perfectly together. Measurements are 13" square. Excellent condition; made circa 1930's.
This Autumn Leaves quilt is both well quilted and appliqued. The inner and outer frames are quilted with a variety of flowers. The appliqued leaves are solid and printed fabrics, many of which are feedsacks. The quilt measures 80" x 84". Excellent condition; Pennsylvania origin; circa 1930's.
