Stella Rubin Antique Quilts and Decorative Arts
Washington DC Vicinity
|Both the quilting and the applique are finely detailed in this Floral Album Quilt, probably made in Baltimore. The fabrics are used in a most sophisticated way, giving shading to the grapes and texture to the acorns. The vining grapevine border begins at the bottom and has an opening at the top, an unusual detail. The four corner blocks are the same which visually contributes to the framed effect. Quilting in the white grid is done in feather patterns with tiny stitches. Grapes and some of the flowers are padded applique. In all, it is a lovely composition done with very fine needlework. Measurements are 94" x 100". Excellent, unwashed condition.|
