| This unusual practice piece of cross stitched designs includes flowers; birds and geometric patterns on a blue checked ground. Most often, this type of work is seen ornamenting aprons; pillows or comforters but it is quite rare to see as large a piece as this with a variety of patterns. Most are cross stitched directly to the large ground material but several were done on smaller pieces of fabric and appliqued to the main piece. Everything is blue and white cotton with the exception of a small rogue area of maroon colored wool. This type of cross stitch decoration in eastern Pennsylvania in the late 19th century. It is mounted on a stretcher measuring 27" x 34". Condition is excellent. | |||||||
