Trapunto Center Wreath Quilt with Birds: Circa 1860

This imaginatively conceived quilt is illustrated in Safford and Bishop's "America's Quilts and Coverlets" where it is described as "One of the most unusual applique and trapunto quilts to be preserved. The design is completely original, finely drawn and expertly worked". Stuffed work wreaths are between both of the appliqued circles as well as trapunto in the corners. Condition is excellent; measurements are 87" square.
