Mennonite Sawtooth Diamond Quilt: Circa 1890; Pa.

This Mennonite Diamond in a Square quilt has the unusual addition of a square within the diamond! It is made of wools that are in very good condition but do have a few tiny holes, as shown in thumbnail detail. The use of several different red wools in the sawtooth border make for a nice variation. The maker was clearly influenced by the traditional Lancaster Amish Diamond in a Square pattern. The execution of this quilt is more crude but in some ways, more graphically effective because of the use of color. Black was not used in the Lancaster quilts. Measurements are 74" x 78".
