This Mennonite Hearts and Gizzards quilt is made with a rich combination of colors. It is black with what can best be described as a rosy terra cotta. Embroidered stitching in white lightens the entire piece. The wide triangle border is a nice continuation of the geometric pieces between the hearts. The curved and geometric patterns of the quilt alternate as to which is primary. The maker took the time and care to make an additional twist to the corner blocks. In sum, it is a masterful version of this pattern. The quilt is in pristine condition. Made in Pennsylvania; circa 1880. Measures 74" x 82".
