This dramatic Windmill Blades is a wonderful example of a Victorian quilt that is not the Crazy Quilt one often thinks of from this era. It is a contained Windmill Blades (aka Pineapple Log Cabin) in that the blocks are separated with sashing. The sashing is outlined with embroidery, very much in the Victorian taste as is the tailored red ruffle creating the border. The lights and darks are well placed to give several ways to see the positive/negative patterns.
The quilt is made of silk, satin and velvet that are in excellent condition. There is a small slit on the backing, probably where it was folded for a long period, but no issues on the front. Measurements are 63" square; circa 1890.
