Tumbling Blocks Charm Quilt: Circa 1876; Pennsylvania

Tumbling Blocks (aka Baby Blocks) charm quilt - no fabric is used more than once. Crisp, unwashed condition. Has several small dark spots on one diamond shaped piece; everything else is pristine. Quilted in diamonds that echo the pieced blocks. The solid color blocks in the center, though, are quilted with a pinwheel in a circle and hearts around it. Excellent distribution of lights and darks. Well pieced and quilted. A sought after pattern done with an astounding assortment of centennial and earlier fabrics. Measures 86" x 87"; Lancaster County, Pennsylvania origin. Illustrated in "The Quilt: A History and Celebration of an American Art Form" by Elise Schebler Roberts.
