|Bishop's Weed (Ammi vulgare), plate 447, from Elizabeth Blackwell's work entitled "A Curious Herbal, containing five-hundred cuts of the most useful plants which are now used in the practice of physick. Engraved on folio copper plates after drawings taken from the life." Volume 2 Published 1739 in London. An extremely popular work picturing a large variety of flowers, fruits and shrubs, with original handcoloring by Mrs. Elizabeth Blackwell. Published in 1737-1739 as a way for Elizabeth to bail her husband out of debtor's prison. Plates measure 14.5" x 9/5". These are hand colored engravings. Photocopy of text page and title page included. Condition: Very good; some spots and impurities in paper (see enlargements); binding holes; pencil writing outside plate mark upper right.
