|Diaphanous Jungermannia (jungermannia hyalina) #2678 from the work "English Botany..." by James Sowerby, a periodical published between 1790 and 1814 with fine hand-colored engravings that cover every possible subject from the lowliest mold spore to the finest flower specimens of the day. The plates measure 11.375" x 8.75". This plate is from vol. 1 of the Supplement, published in 1831 and includes text page. The Title Page reads: SUPPLEMENT TO THE "ENGLISH BOTANY OF THE LATE SIR J. E. SMITH AND MR. SOWERBY THE DESCRIPTIONS, SYNONYMS, AND PLACES OF GROWTH BY WILLIAM JACKSON HOOKER, LL.D. REGIUS PROFESSOR OF BOTANY IN THE UNIVERSITY OF GLASGOW, F.R.S. F.S.A. L.S. &c. &c. AND OTHER EMINENT BOTANISTS; THE FIGURES BY JAMES DE CARLE SOWERBY, F.L.S. &c.". Condition: Good, a few impurities in paper, binding holes, l line along left edge of plate mark. (see Enlargements).|
