|Black Gum (Nyssa sylvatica) Plate #110 from the work "The North American Sylva..." by Francois Andre Michaux, the American Edition published in 1857. These are hand finished Colored engravings. The plates measure 10.5" x 7". This plate reads Pl. 110 in upper right, A. Rich del. in the bottom left, Black Gum Nyssa sylvatica at bottom center, and Gabriel Sc. at the bottom right. The Title Page reads: "The North American Sylva; or, the Description of the Forest Trees of the United States, Canada, and Nova Scotia. Considered Particularly with Respect for their Use in the Arts and Their Introduction into Commerce. To Which is added A Description of the Most Useful of the European Forest Trees. Illustrated with 156 Colored Engravings Translated from the French of F. Andrew Michaux, Member of the Philosophical Society pf Philadelphia, Etc. Etc, With Notes by J. Jay Smith, Editor of the Horticulturalist, Member of the Academy of Natural Sciences, Etc. In Three Volumes. Vol. 1. Philadelphia: Published by D. Rice & A.N. Hart, No.27 Minor Street 1857".
