Dark Red Hibiscus, also known as Chinese hibiscus, China rose, and shoe flower (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis) #995 from the work "The Botanical Cabinet Consisting Of Coloured Delineations Of Plants From All Countries..." by Conrad Loddiges & Sons. London 1817-1833, with fine hand-colored engravings by George Cooke. The plates measure 7.88" x 6.25", although they are from the fully coloured 4to edition. This plate is from vol. 10, published in 1824 and includes text page and photocopy of correct title page.
Condition: Binding holes along right edge, lower left legend cut off (see enlargement 6), losses in binding edge and small spot of dark foxing lower right (see enlargement 5. |
