This diminutive poison bottle dates to the early 1900s and sports a complete label, "ELATERIUM". The bottle is in fine, original condition and has some powdered contents remaining. The bottom portion of label reads: "Guar'd by Merck & Co. under Food & drugs act, June 30, '06". Measures 1.75 inches tall with cork. Elaterium is an extract of the squirting cucumber and was used as a powerful purgative (laxative). |
