Offered is the fabulously RARE NIGGER HAIR Tobacco Tin from the early 1920's!! This image was used by The American Tobacco Company of Wisconsin to sell their product; the lithographed tin was manufactured by the B. Leidersdorf Company, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Measuring 7 inches high x 5 ¾ inches wide, the condition of the tin is very fine, sporting a superb lithograph that, on one side, remains blemish free with the exception of some very minor and superficial scratches (as seen in photo). The other side has seen more shelf exposure and thus has greater surface blemishing as noted in photos. The tobacco tin also retains its original bail handle and tin lid. (Please disregard any areas of the tin that appear to be lighter than others; this is due to lighting conditions and surface reflections only. The orange color is uniform and even throughout the surface area of this tin.) Still present are remnants of the original green paper Federal Tobacco Seal affixed at the factory which would indicate the date of manufacture. The American Tobacco Company changed the name of its product to BIGGER HAIR tobacco in the late 1920’s when the previous moniker became less socially acceptable. At that time, the material out of which the tobacco container was constructed was changed from tin to heavy cardboard. Truly an extraordinarily RARE piece of Black Memorabilia seldom found in this pristine condition complete with bail handle and lid! |
