Measuring 4 inches in diameter x 1 3/8 inches high, this fabulous, circa late 19th Century, solid brass SLAVE FACE Bowl is an extremely RARE find! Given its age, it is in utterly pristine condition with no fault other than an approximately 1 inch long, minor misshaping/scuffing to the underside of the upper left rim edge. There are no markings on this piece which appears to be hand forged given the subtle asymmetry of the overall shape of the bowl as well as the detailing of the facial features. I saw a very similar piece years ago at a high-end auction with a date attribution of 1860-1880. This lovely piece is truly unique and rare and would be an important addition to one’s Black Americana collection! |
