Offered is the fabulously RARE BIGGER HAIR Smoke or Chewing Tobacco Container from the later 1920's!! This heavy cardboard receptacle, of course, was the slightly later and much more politically correct version of the original "Nigger Hair" Tobacco tin, produced by B. Leidersdorf Co, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the successor company to original Nigger Hair manufacturer, The American Tobacco Company. The identical image, the FIJI ISLANDER, was used on both containers to sell tobacco. Measuring 7 inches high x 5 ¾ inches wide, the condition of this container is very fine, sporting a superb lithograph that, on one side, remains blemish free with the exception of some very subtle creasing (as seen in photo). The other side has seen more shelf exposure and thus has greater surface blemishing as noted in photos. The tobacco container also retains its original cardboard lid complete with green Federal paper tax stamp/seal dating this tobacco jar to February 26, 1926!! (Please disregard any areas of the container that appear to be lighter than others; this is due to lighting conditions and surface reflections only. The medium brown color is uniform and even throughout the surface area.) Truly an extraordinarily RARE piece of Black Memorabilia seldom found in this pristine condition due to the inherently fragile nature of cardboard! Intact and complete "Nigger Hair" tins are quite rare, however, the more delicate "Bigger Hair" Containers are even more so! |
