Offered is a wonderful and early tin wind-up toy from the 1930's featuring two little boy boxers- one white and one black- which are likely made of celluloid. While unmarked, it is assumed that the toy was manufactured in Japan. The toy DOES come with a wind-up key. When you wind the toy, it rolls back and forth, with the thin, flat center pole snapping the boxers so that their arms, which are on elastic, flail around at each other as if they were actually having a fight. The two little boys are quite adorable- both wear blue trunks, and one wears pink gloves and shoes while the other is dressed in brownish gloves and shoes. The bases are green with red wheels. The toy measures just under 4" tall, 5" long and about 1 3/4" wide. As stated this is a working toy. Condition of the toy is good with no breaks or repairs. The toy winds easily and works well--it really rolls around, and the little boys' arms swing around easily. Winding the toy is a bit awkward as the wind-up mechanism is under the white boy. Condition of each of the boxers is also quite good with minor blemishes to the delicate celluloid as follows: The white boy has a 1/8" hole on one side, at the trunk line but this is likely original to manufacture as it is almost a perfect tiny hole. The white boy also has a small dent (less than 1/4") on the lower back of his head which blends in with the wavy hair. The black boy's paint is a little sloppy most particularly on his chest and arms. He also has a dent near the top of his head, which is about the diameter of a pencil eraser (about 1/4" around). This is a very rare little Black Memorabilia toy not often found-particularly in this condition! |
