This First Aid Kit comes from the personal collection of a recently retired physician. He stated that this kit was once used in the coal mines in Pittsburgh, PA. It appears to be from the early 1930 period and is packed with an interesting assortment of emergency supplies in their original boxes. There are 14 different boxes of bandages or compresses (1 bandage box is missing)- 1 box of Ammonia Spirits - 1 box with Tourniquet, Forceps and scissors - 1 box with Castor Oil, for the Eye - 1 Tincture 'Metaphen' Swabs - and 1 box of Paper Cups. Most of the boxes come with visually graphic or printed directions on the outside. The photos do not fully capture the uniqueness of the kit. The inside of the cover has a contents label that has been "updated" by those who felt slightly different contents were required. The front of the metal case has an emblem marked "MINE SAFETY APPLIANCE CO. - EFFICIENCY - SERVICE - SAFETY - Pittsburg, PA." and FIRST AID KIT. The condition of the case is good and sports a patina commensurate with a used safety kit. The contents are in very good condition and nearly complete. This kit is worthy of inclusion in any museum or collection related to emergency medicine and specifically, mine safety. The case measures 9" x 9.5" x 2.5" and is ready for your display! |
