This AIR SAMPLING KIT is from a recently retired physician's personal collection. He stated that this kit was used in the coal mines of Pittsburgh, PA., prior to being given to him for display in his office. The kit was used to sample the air quality or purity in the coal mines, and thus, the safety of the air levels that the miners were exposed to. The box and contents appear to be from the early 1930's period. Contained within are a group of glass jars, a few test tubes, a dropper and squeeze bulb with hose. The wooden case is sturdy in construction, includes a fitted interior and sports a wonderful patina commensurate with age and use. Inside the lid there are posted directions for using the “ANALINE TEST KIT”. 3 of the taller bottles have hand written red labels noting contents. The bottle covers have light superficial rust and the bottle stopper is hardened. This is a rare air sampling kit and rightfully belongs on display within a museum or specialty collection of items related to mine safety. The case measures 10.5" x 8" x 6" and is ready for your display and enjoyment! |
