John Chin Young (Hawaiian, b. 1909) Abstract Oil on paper, signed lower right.
Painting Size: 13 x 10 Born in Honolulu, HI on March 26, 1909. Young was educated there at McKinley High School. As a teenager he opted for an art career and, following high school, he worked as a sign painter and window display artist. Although a resident of Honolulu, Young was active in California in the 1930s. Working in oil and watercolor, he continued painting until shortly before his death in Honolulu on Dec. 21, 1997. As well as his own paintings, his home on Diamond Head held a large collection of primitive Asian, African and Pre-Columbian art.
